The general rule about investing
in diamonds is that you cannot judge the book by its covers, according to a
diamond expert, Koby Kamhaji. It is unwise to simply judge the value of a
diamond simply by how it looks. There are many factors that determine the price
or value of this precious gem stone as an investment. Koby Kamhaji, a renowned
expert in this particular field of study, gives some tips before purchasing
diamond so investors don’t end up losing their money in the long run.
1. Certificate
One of the most reputable and
trusted certification for diamonds is issued by GIA (Gemological Institute of
America). It is a non-profit institute founded in 1931 with the main mission is
to protect both buyer and seller of gemstones by setting standards for
gemstones quality. Before purchasing a diamond, always ask the seller for GIA
certificate; Koby Kamhaji stated that there are other similar organizations as
well, but GIA is the most trusted. The certification grants you the right to
change or get your money back in case the actual quality is different from one
indicated in the certification. In other words, GIA certification protects your
money.
2. Diamonds are not gold
What Koby Kamhaji means by this
is that diamonds are entirely different from gold. The color, weight, and
purity are not the only things used for determining the value. Other important
features of diamonds are clarity, shape, polish, symmetry, cut, and more. The
bad news is that all factors have to be perfect, so one incorrect feature will
ruin the investment. It is best to consult expert before purchasing and have
all features in any diamond elaborated clearly to you in order to make the
right decision.
3. Get help from expert
Unlike gold which only has few
things to determine quality and value, diamonds have plenty of factors to put
into account. Purchasing a diamond without consulting an expert is not
recommended. Your best bet is to ask a professional to accompany you when
purchasing, but you may not be so lucky that an expert will always be there for
you. The next best thing to do is to consult an expert about everything related
to the gemstone. Koby Kamhaji recommends you to ask as many questions as you
can before making any decision.
4. Diamond professionals
The seller or the company that
sells you the diamonds does not always have the professional to clarify the
quality of this gemstone. You must be sure that the professional is the one who
actually understands the issue just like a professional doctor who understands
diseases and treatments. If you are not sure, Koby Kamhaji suggested that you
do some research to find qualified professional to check the gemstone with the
proper tool (usually professional diamond microscope).
